DEMISTFY FLY FISHING
Truckee River Fly Fishing Guide
2018 marks the 35th year that Frank R. Pisciotta’s Thy Rod & Staff guide service has instructed and guided fly fishers exclusively in the Lake Tahoe region. For 20 years Frank was one of California’s very few ORVIS-Endorsed fly fishing guides. His four-decades-plus experience fly fishing the waters of the Truckee River watershed is unsurpassed. Simply, experience does count and he willingly shares such knowledge with his guide clients; both old and new.
There are eight (8) special regulation waters within an hour’s drive of the Frank’s High Sierra hometown of Truckee. These “wild trout” waters include the notable Truckee and Little Truckee rivers and lesser known North Fork of the Yuba River and Milton Lake. Guiding is also available at “secret”, small creeks and beaver-dam pools scattered throughout the region. The quarry throughout the area are stream-bred Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout.
Truckee Guide NetWork
Frank is a founding member of the Truckee Guide NetWork; California’s original “Guide NetWork” (imitation being the best form of flattery) established in 2001. The two other TGN founders, John Roberts and Brian Slusser still operate in the Truckee area as independent guides and instructors. These days the group is larger, associated with Jon Biaocchi, Captain Chris Maher and Mike Curtis; remaining the premier group of the most experienced, independent, fly angling guides in the Truckee area. We are confident in referring each other if one of us is unavailable.
All guide trips are tailored to the specific desires and skill levels of the client. We provide the beginner fly fisher with one-on-one, “on-stream” instruction. For the experienced fly angler we guide you and eliminate countless hours of precious “prospecting” time. For a cost-effective orientation to the idiosyncrasies of our “home waters” consider a Native Sons Tour.
Reel School of Fly Fishing
The Reel School of Fly Fishing, offers both scheduled one and two-day, fly fishing skills clinics. The two-day basic skills clinic is designed to introduce the fundamentals of fly fishing; creating a solid foundation from which one can confidently pursue the sport at their leisure. The one day skills clinic focuses on a specific type of fly fishing, either dry-fly or wet-fly fishing; ideally suited for fly anglers beyond the beginner stage and are intent on advancing their existing skills.
The school has scheduled and arranged private clinics; the latter tailored to the desires and existing skills of the affinity group. Simply, a superlative instructor must possess technical and people skills PLUS the ability to clearly and comfortably clearly both Such talent we possess.
